This would indeed be interesting. An improvement to the costume unlock potential of Tailer, Outfitter and Armorer craftable items would be most welcome! (I assume weaponsmith costume unlocks are in a good place, but I haven't really seen those models)
If the decision were made in a crafting overhaul to make crafting armor for stats viable, even better! but I will gladly settle for cosmetic/fun at this point.

Dye crafting could involve mats from gathering professions.
Survivalist for certain bug meat (the lore reason would be use of the exoskeleton), bones and lumber (for marrow and sap).
Relic Hunter for plasm
Mining for ores and gems
Gardens for technologist herbs and edible plants
However the issue with making dyes craftable would be...Dyes are account bound now. The craftable ones would need to be not Account Bound, to allow for some sort of economy to encourage the crafting system to be used. If there's no incentive, no one will use it, so it would not make sense to develop and implement.
